The StabilityBelt: What is it?

A wearable haptic device classified as a Class 1 medical device, the StabilityBelt helps patients with severe balance impairments recover their independence by providing them with haptic input.

Individuals with severe balance issues, such those with bilateral vestibular loss (BVL), struggle to walk and experience extreme imbalance. An estimated 81 persons per 100,000 are anticipated to be affected by BVL, or more than 6 million individuals globally.

BVL sufferers are able to move around independently and without the assistance of others, walking sticks, or wheelchairs thanks to the StabilityBelt, which offers haptic input on the wearer's body posture and balance. Studies have indicated that wearing a StabilityBelt improves one's quality of life.

The Prof. Dr. Chefard and Catilex Wearables collaborated to create the StabilityBelt.

How StabilityBelt Operates

An intelligent belt that incorporates vibration motors and an accelerometer.

Patients with balance disorders receiving haptic input on body position:

An accelerometer and a number of small vibration motors, or actuators, are included in the StabilityBelt. The belt vibrates in response to the direction the user is leaning toward, alerting the wearer of their body posture.

Subconsciously interpreting the input, the wearer adjusts their posture and enhances their balance.

Suitable for daily use:

  • Subtle and intuitive.
  • Light-weight
  • Sizes ranging from XS-XL
  • Washable textile sleeve
  • Chargeable in 6 hours, battery lasts up to 16 hours

What people are saying about StabilityBelt

I lost all freedom when my two organs used for balance stopped working. I've mostly regained it because of the StabilityBelt: I depend on people far less now. Additionally, it makes it feasible for me to resume enjoying things that my balance condition had made difficult or impossible, including shopping and visiting friends, as well as my greatest interest, traveling.

Anyone with a similar balance condition should definitely consider the StabilityBelt.

Mark Zeller

After a protracted hospital stay in 2016, both of my balancing organs stopped working, and my life altered completely: I could no longer go outdoors without a rollator or stick and found it difficult to even sit down and get up. I found it harder and harder to continue working out and enjoying my hobbies.

I can now lead an active life again because to the StabilityBelt. I walk 1-2 miles every day without the need for a rollator and with a steady pace. I wear it not just while I ride my bike and go grocery shopping, but also when I get off the bike. If you have a similar balance condition, I would suggest trying the belt to see if it helps you too.
